Be amazed by Porto Seguro, a National Monument as declared by the Brazilian government, considered the entrance gate of the Costa do Descobrimento. When you book the Porto Seguro City Tour you’ll be able to discover the history of Brazil, as this city is the exact location where the Portuguese explorers settled in the 16th century.

You’ll visit the highest part of the city, the historic downtown, protected by the IPHAN (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage) since 1973. This is one of the first settlements in the country, which played an integral role in the colonization era. The parish of Nossa Senhora da Pena (1535) is where the sacred art of the 16th and 17th centuries are preserved, including the images of Sao Francisco de Assis and Nossa Senhora da Pena, the patroness of the city.

After that you’ll visit the City Hall, also known as the Casa de Cámara e Cadeia, one of the most stunning colonial-era buildings in Brazil. There you will find the Historic Museum (also known as the Descobrimento Museum) and near from there, the church of Misericordia (1526), with Baroque-style images of Cristo Crucificado. You will also visit the church of Sao Benedito, declared a National Monument and situated next to the ruins of the ancient residence and the first Jesuit school in Brazil.

Lastly, you’ll visit the Marco do Descobrimento, which offers one of the most breathtaking landscapes of Porto Seguro. This monument was brought from Portugal between 1503-1526, it symbolizes the power of the Portuguese crown and was used to delimit its lands.
