This Sunday Market Tour is an invitation to learn about a part of popular and pre-Hispanic culture in the state of Oaxaca. This tour begins with a visit to the town of San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya, a picturesque sixteenth century town where you can see plateresque style altars to the Virgin of Rosario, the Archangel Gabriel, and Mary and the Divine Child.

On this tour you’ll also visit the Yagul archeological site, where you can see petroglyphs, its ceremonial center, the ball court and the ancestral walls.

Later you’ll visit the Tlacolula tianguis (open-air market), one of the most traditional in the country, which takes place every Sunday along the main street of the town and attracts indigenous people from the central valleys of Oaxaca to buy and sell a variety of products. This tianguis is one of the most similar to those that existed in pre-Hispanic times.
