Rio de Janeiro is much more than beaches and beautiful scenery. One of the best places for shopping in Rio de Janeiro is Ipanema, featuring high-end retail stores offering the latest trends. Most of the best shops are located on a street called Visconde de Piraja. In Copacabana, you can also find numerous stores, boutiques, bookshops, as well as several reputable jewelers on the famous avenue Nossa Senhora de Copacabana. Barra Shopping and New York City Center
Located in the Barra de Tijuca neighborhood, Barra Shopping is an excellent choice for dining, entertainment and of course shopping, all in one place. This mall has a wide variety of department stores and retail shops carrying all sorts of goods, including electronics, perfumes, cosmetics, sporting goods, shoes, clothing, kid's apparel, and much more. There is also an entertainment center, a convention center and even a state-of-the-art medical center within the same complex. The New York City Center, which connects to the mall, hosts several cultural events, such as book presentations, storytelling, and kid's entertainment.
Located in the Botafogo neighborhood, this mall has a total of 400 shops and department stores and was the first shopping center to be built in Rio de Janeiro. It features all kinds of stores carrying sporting goods, electronics, cosmetics, and clothing. After a busy day of shopping you can enjoy a good meal at the food court or perhaps catch a movie at the multiplex theater.
Botafogo Praia Shopping
This 8-story shopping center features 170 retail and department stores carrying clothing, decorative objects, sporting goods, household appliances, shoes, and more. There's always a good deal to be found here and lots of entertaining things to do, including a multiplex theater and excellent restaurants.
Sao Conrado Fashion Mall
Located in the suburb of Sao Conrado this is one of the most exclusive shopping centers in Rio de Janeiro. It has spacious facilities, beautifully landscaped gardens and an open-air design. It features high-end stores selling clothing, sporting goods, electronics, cosmetics and perfumes, along with a theater, a multiplex cinema, and a whole lot more.
Cassino Atlantico Shopping Center
Located on the corner of Atlantica and Francisco Otaviano Street, this shopping center is home to a number of art galleries and antique shops. You'll also find women's and men's clothing stores, interior design shops, bookstores and souvenirs.
Shopping Center da Gavea
This mall, which offers a spectacular view of Sugarloaf Mountain, features over 200 stores selling everything from clothing to home decor and furniture. There are also plenty of restaurants to choose from, serving from fast food to local favorites. Besides shopping, there's also lots of entertaining things to do, including movie theaters and special events.
This modern shopping center has an excellent food court overlooking Lake Rodrigo de Freitas. It features a multiplex theater and 190 stores offering a great variety of goods and services.
Feria Hippie de Ipanema
This is one of Ipanema's most famous craft fairs, where artists come from all over to sell their pieces. You can find from furniture, paintings and hand-carved sculptures to leather goods, jewelry, and a wide selection of collectibles. It's a good place to hunt for souvenirs during your visit to Rio de Janeiro.
