Vacations, Travel and Tourism to La Romana Dominican Republic
La Romana is one of the main tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic, country which occupies a good part of Hispaniola, a Caribbean island that forms a part of the Antilles Archipelago. Turquoise blue waters lap gently against the beaches of the island, leaving the beaches smooth. La Romana has a long stretch of beautiful coastline, making this an incredible paradise.
In recent decades, the Dominican Republic has turned into one of the main hot spots for tourists from far and wide. The success of this country as a vacation spot is due to the beauty of the landscapes and the hospitality of the locals. A lot of effort has been placed on bettering the service and comfort of the hotel guest with extensive development in this region, geared towards this end. La Romana is capable of surprising any traveler who comes and visits.
The name of the island goes back to the days of the conquest, when Christopher Columbus arrived. Before the appearance of the Spaniards, it was inhabited by groups of indigenous people who were fishermen, hunters and gatherers. Hispaniola was a strategic point being as that it was the obligatory stop to make before traveling back and forth between the Old World and the Americas. The island was the first European settlement on this side of the Atlantic.
La Romana was a port that the Spaniards used to load merchandise from further inland. After the last independence movement of the country, the economy of La Romana depended primarily on the export of softwood. It was at the end of the 19th century, when Cuba was at war, that planters immigrated to create sugar plantations in La Romana.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, a North American sugar plantation was set up here and has been the economic driving force of the area since then. Tabacco is also grown here producing brands such as the Dominican version of Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta. Ever since the arrival of the sugar plantations, Cuba and the Dominican Republic share a lot of common interests, one of which is the most famous and popular pastime of the island: baseball.
There are only a few words that can best describe the sensation of pure blissful enjoyment that is produced when taking in the view. No human can avoid it and all are drawn to this land where water and sand mix. The beach is a mysterious body of sand, isolated by the sea, which is relentless yet tame, spanning infinitely without penetrating the earth. However, the beauty of La Romana isn't limited to the beaches. It is a destination that combines Caribbean charm with luxury and style, all rolled into one excellent vacation.
In the 70s, tourist infrastructure was being built around the city, converting La Romana into one of the main and most attractive destination in the Caribbean. Everything started with a spectacularly sized hotel complex that was constructed nearby called Casa de Campo. It is considered an exclusive site in the Caribbean, where you can find golf courses, polo fields, villas, beaches and much, much more.
At the top of a mountain, only a few minutes from La Romana, is Altos de Chavon. It's a small village that is a replica of Mediterranean towns from the 17th century. Altos de Chavon is an attractive option if you want to visit bars, restaurants and galleries.
