The "Windy City" has hundreds of night clubs, mainly bars, lounges, pubs, and dance clubs with the best DJs on the planet. Depending on where you are visiting, there are Latin clubs or traditional clubs from different cultures and countries.
Another attraction of Chicago's nightlife is the jazz and blues clubs, very popular in this city due to its large African American community. Chicago is the city where house music began in the late 1970's. It is also a city well known for its soul and gospel music.
Chicago, aside from having an important area known as the "Theater District" located in downtown, also has a great number of theaters in many neighborhoods. The famous and legendary Chicago Theater that was given the name the "Wonder Theatre of the World" when it opened in 1921. It was the first luxurious theater of great dimensions in the United States. Another attraction in this great city is the endless variety of musical events and concerts that can be enjoyed anytime of the year, either in small bars and theaters, or in venues with capacity for up to several thousand people. The Vic Theater, the House of Blues, the Riviera, the Congress Theater, the Aragon, the Ravinia Park, and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion are some of the most popular places to enjoy concerts, recitals, or performances of your favorite artists or bands. The city also features numerous art galleries: elegant and refined in the most exclusive areas to modest but original galleries in any neighborhood of the city. Many of them are open till late at night.
Clubs and Bars
The "Windy City" has a great number of clubs and bars. Many of them are dance nightclubs and are open until late; while bars close at around 2 or 3 a.m. Usually, all nightclubs stop selling liquor one hour before they close their doors to the public. Chicago also has many jazz and blues clubs, bars to have a drink and chat peacefully, wine and martini bars, sports bars with large TV screens, or places to dance all night long.
The most sophisticated dance clubs are mainly in the downtown area and near Lake Michigan. Neighborhoods such as The Loop, Gold Coast, Wicker Park and Bucktown have trendy original clubs. The majority of the jazz and blues clubs are in The Loop area and South Loop. The downtown area also has a lot of sports bars. The neighborhoods that are farther from downtown feature mainly bars, pubs, and some dance clubs. If you want to visit a gay bar, the area known as Boystown in the community of Lakeview is your best option.
