Yucatan nightlife is as varied as the people who visit the state. The people from Yucatan are very fond of partying and what they do for fun depends on the cities they come from. Merida, Valladolid and Tizimin all have excellent nightclubs with great DJs which in general close around 3:00 a.m.

Every city and town in the Yucatan Peninsula has a main square where quaint little restaurants and stands serve delicious food and drinks, which you can enjoy while watching regional dances, listening to marimba players or just chatting with friends.

Another Yucatan tradition, to be enjoyed in the evening, is renting a horse-drawn cart to take a ride through the cobbled streets and admire the perfectly preserved colonial buildings. This can be a very romantic and fun experience, and it's a perfect way to understand the delicate balance of past and present that is found in the Yucatan.

Archeological sites such as Chichen Itza and Uxmal are prime examples of the diversity of nightlife on offer in the Yucatan. At these sites there are no bars or nightclubs and the focus is more about mysticism and culture. Both archeological sites feature impressive light and sound shows where different topics about ancient Maya customs are beautifully reenacted.
