Join us on an amazing lagoon tour of fascinating Zapotalito and Chacahua! Start your adventure by heading west to see the beautiful lagoon of Manialtepec and the Cacalotepec Settlement as you come out of Puerto Escondido. Some of the African trees found here are over a hundred years old.
Your first stop will be Zapotalito, a small fishing village set among the mangrove alongside the lagoon. From here, a boat ride will take you to the breathtaking Barra de Cerro Hermoso, where the lagoon water mixes with the ocean to form a giant pool between two towering hills; this natural beauty is the perfect spot for practicing photography. En route to Chacahua, make your way by boat through the mangrove jungle to various islands on the lagoon, including Las Culebras, El Cura, Nana Jacinta and Pinuelas. These islands are home to beautiful migratory birds such as spoonbills, jacanas, ibis, blue, white and grey herons, tiger herons, cranes, pelicans, gulls, anhingas and kingfishers.
Following this breathtaking lagoon tour, arrive at Chacahua by way of the Canal de Corral. Upon arrival, a visit to the Biological Crocodile Center will allow you to see crocodile species of all sizes. Bring this amazing day to a close at the stunning Chacahua Beach, where you can lie out on the expansive beach or swim in the waters of the lagoon. Enjoy a seafood meal in this secluded setting before making your way back. Don’t miss out on this adventure on the Oaxaca coast!
