The first stage of this adventure consists of a visit to Boca de Potrerillos, the natural pass to the Potrerillos Canyon. It is flanked by two mountainous formations, on the walls of which you'll find thousands of petroglyphs of animals, plants, human figures and other symbols, presumably drawn by the ancient inhabitants of the area.
Visit the Hacienda San Antonio de Arista to "live" history of fierce battles that have taken place in the area during Mexico's revolutionary movements of the 20th century. Since then, legends of ghosts have been told by inhabitants of the area, who also know the place as the "Hacienda del Muerto" (Dead Man's Hacienda).
In the Bernabe de las Casas Museum, you can see the skull of a mammoth found here in 1983, among many other items, all part of the collection of the museum, including religious art of Nuevo Leon,as well as pieces of regional history, anthropology, geology and even plastic art.
The main attraction is definitely the Potrero Chico Canyon, a climber's paradise. This canyon has the tallest climbable rock wall in Latin America, which has lots of routes to be explored, for beginners or for advanced climbers, looking for an excellent challenge. Even if you don't want to be hanging off a cliff, paying a visit to Potrero Chico is a must.
