Casa del Balam was once the private residence of the late Mr. Fernando Barbachano Peon, a pioneer in Mexico's tourism industry and head of one of Yucatan's most prominent families. The hotel was built in the 1970's by Ms.Carmen Barbachano Rul, an heiress to the Barbachano legacy. Great care was taken to preserve its original colonial style by adapting parts of the original house into the new design, which includes a six-story addition, a restaurant, a bar, and two boutiques. |
