Shopping on Isla Mujeres is a popular pastime especially because most shops 
offer an array of arts and crafts as well as souvenirs from the Mexican Caribbean. This charming island has it all, peace and tranquility, stunning views, breathtaking beaches and lovely handicrafts.
Its sandy cobblestone streets are complemented by picturesque houses and buildings, among which you will find lots of small shops. If you are fond of collecting souvenirs, there are many appealing items to be found, made out of seashells, sand, starfish and conches, by the local artisans.
Downtown
Isla Mujeres is brimming with shops that carry an assortment of traditional items from all over Mexico. From handmade figurines made of seashells and thread, black pottery from Oaxaca, wooden masks, engraved glass ashtrays, and acrylic key chains, to complicated brightly-colored Mexican folk art, and 
sculptures of fantastical animal-like creatures called 'alebrijes' made of papier mache. A tour through the streets of Isla Mujeres is a must, almost as important as going snorkeling or sunbathing at Playa Norte.
In Downtown Isla Mujeres there are a number of jewelry stores selling unique pieces made of silver and gold from Guerrero, mostly from the small town of Taxco. Also there are numerous necklaces, bracelets and charms with inlaid patterns of jade or amber, created mainly in Chiapas.
