Going shopping in Durango can be as fun and relaxing as a visit to any of our main attractions of the city. There are distinct commercial areas, boutiques, department stores and traditional markets.

Among the more popular handcrafts of the region are the basketry, normally used for everyday life but can also be used as decoration. In the city, you can find bags, baskets, hats, belts, boots, key chains, sandals and other leather goods, all made from natural materials. In pottery, there are also flower pots, pitchers, pots, casseroles as well as ceramic objects with pre-Hispanic designs. There is also a wide variety of other types of handcrafts like necklaces, bracelets, rings and sculptures.

The influence of the Tepehuanes can also be seen in the regional handcrafts. Embroidered textiles, blankets, hats and musical instruments, such as flutes and drums can also be found.

There are also some cultural institutions of the city, such as the Universidad Juarez, that promote the tradition of crafts such as sculptures, paintings, ceramic, glass and textile. More often than not, artists exhibit their work in the main plaza of the city and sometimes, some of the stores put these items on sale. These exhibits are known for their beauty and creativity of handmade glass objects, such as vases with original and decorative design. You can't leave Durango without one!
